The guide was very friendly, super helpful, and it was clear he knew a lot. He also had a great appreciation for Milan. It's a tour with a lot of history, so keep that in mind, and it's a bit long, although it went by quickly for us.

More information

Connecting Piazza del Duomo with La Scala, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is one of Milan’s most iconic landmarks. Its glass dome, iron structure and grand interiors make it a symbol of the city’s style and refinement.

Background and history

The galleria opened in 1877 and was named after Italy’s first king, Vittorio Emanuele II. Designed as a covered public space rather than a simple shopping street, it quickly became a social hub for Milan’s elite. Its architecture blends 19th-century engineering with ornate decoration, reflecting Italy’s unification-era ambition.

Why visit

Visitors come to admire the soaring glass ceilings, mosaic floors and historic storefronts. Luxury boutiques, classic cafés and bookshops line the arcades, making it as much about atmosphere as shopping. Standing beneath the central dome offers one of Milan’s most photogenic interior views.
